Orana Trade Training Centre
The Orana Trade Training Centre is a state-of-the-art facility that provides the community with a space in which they can work, learn and create. A regional skills hub, specialising in metal, engineering, agriculture and hospitality, Orana TTC serves three independent schools in the Dubbo region, located at St John’s College. It was important to deliver a project that was unique yet relevant to Dubbo. This project was designed to maximise the environmental benefits to create organic and stimulating learning spaces. The scope was carefully curated to include sustainable features to work with the location’s surrounding features, but also to effectively accommodate growth and change. The initial design included the development of a well considered masterplan. The campus consists of three interconnected buildings and includes areas for sculpture and metal works display, plus an 80-seat café with external plaza. This building has many significant and sustainable features, and is constructed in a language that relates to the surrounds and local environment. Roof mounted wind catchers, solar tubes, automated windows and rainwater harvesting were successfully integrated into the design to greatly reduce the client’s energy and water bulls, and contribute to a more sustainable and ecofriendly society.
